After Soleimani strike, Persian Gulf countries worry about a war on their doorstep

Robert Windrem details the fear of Gulf Arab states after President Trump’s decision to kill Iranian Commander Gen. Wassem Soleimani. “Even the most hawkish powers in the Persian Gulf, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain, which have backed Trump's tough line on Iran, were stunned by the attack on Soleimani and have appealed to the White House to avoid a conflagration with Tehran…” wrote Windrem. Persian Gulf governments urge the U.S. to deescalate tensions and are “searching for a diplomatic way out of the crisis.” European governments have shared the concerns over Trump’s decision to kill Soleimani, referring to the United States as an “erratic player on the world stage that could not be relied on.”
