“Beyond the Origins of Totalitarianism” New Republic
Karen Greenberg examines the current state of democracy in the U.S. through the writing of Hannah Arendt. Arendt writes that the dissolution of democracy happens in part when it does not matter what is true or false, merely what is useful. She believes that the solutions are group civil disobedience and participation in democracy on a personal level with neighborhood councils. Greenberg states that Arendt not only describes the potential downfall of democracy but also a path of preservation.
